About Heidi Hess Saxton (“A Catholic Editor”)

Heidi Saxton 2011Hello! Let me introduce myself. I have worked on both sides of the editor’s desk, both in-house for Catholic houses including Ascension Press, Ave Maria, and (most recently) Franciscan Media — and for a decade as a freelance editor, which is what I’m doing right now.

Having spent more thantwenty years in the Catholic publishing industry as both an editor and an author, I’ve had the privilege of working with some of the best writers and editors in the business, and have learned that publishing is first and foremost about relationships. And while I’m happy to answer any questions I can about what I’ve learned about publishing, my primary purpose in starting this blog is to create an online space for Catholic writers to learn and connect with each other.

If you have an idea for a future post, or would like to send me an idea for a guest post, write to me at Heidi(dot)hess(dot)saxton(at)gmail(dot)com. Be sure to put “AskaCatholicEditor” in the subject line.

For more about what I do when I’m not editing, head on over to my personal blog: “A Mother on the Road Less Traveled” (Heidihesssaxton.wordpress.com).

  1. Hi Heidi,
Do you have a rate card or page where people can hire you? I can’t seem to find anything on that. I’ve been through the entire website, and ended up reading quite a few posts (hehe) Do you take on Christian non fiction editing?

    1. Drop me a note at Heidi.hess.saxton@gmail.com and let me know what you need (big picture/developmental editing, or simple line editing) and I can give you a better idea of how I can help. I was raised in the Evangelical tradition, and have contacts in that industry as well who may be able to help you. My starting rate is $50/hour for developmental editing. But I know good line editors who work for significantly less than that. Hope that helps! Heidi
